It is committed to injecting resources to rural area in the way that teachers lead students to provide social services in the countryside, so that students can learn from doing, understand local needs, and then put forward schemes for improvement of quality of life in rural areas.

Teachers and students of Department of Early Childhood Care and Education have long devoted to local services in Cishan. The teacher moved the course from the classroom to the community and invited local senior professionals to give lectures on knowledge about rural areas, such as ecological interpretation, farming and planting, waste material regeneration, etc., so that college students can deeply understand the needs of the community with the experience close to the land, and then explore the advantages of the community. Then they would return to discuss with the teachers in classroom and brainstorm about feasible schemes to boost the development of communities according to the different background and conditions.

This year, Cheng Shiu University was granted the subsidy for University Social Responsibility Practice Program by the Ministry of Education. Teachers and students of the community volunteer group of the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education carried out the program of taking root in primary and secondary schools, which was with the significance of environmental education. They also carried out other activities in elders’ cafés with care function and the outlet village office aimed to bring benefits to peasants.

This year, Department of Early Childhood Care and Education undertook the commission of the Municipal Bureau of Social Affairs to handle the Third District Home Care Service Center. It helps parents with need for child care to find suitable caregivers so that novice parents or dual wage families could solve the problem of unattended children.

The childcare nannies of the center are masterful in many skills like cooking, baking, sewing, painting, making teaching aids. The childcare worker Ms. Qiu of Cishan District could plan natural teaching aids by making use of the home environment and paint lively and rich patterns on the courtyard walls with their families. She could even plant flowers, trees and succulent plants outdoors, making green colors connected with the colors of the field so that the children could deeply feel the integration of living environment and nature.
