Organizer/Co-organizer/Guiding Units: Office of Arts and Culture/Department of Visual Communication Design/Office of Student Affairs.

Event Date: 13:30~16:00, Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

Event Location: Music Professional Classroom, 9th Floor, Comprehensive Building.

Event Details:

(1) Target Audience: All currently enrolled students of Cheng Shiu University.

(2) Competition Categories:

   a. Instruments: Piano (including duet), Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello), Woodwinds (Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone), Flute, Recorder (Soprano, Alto), and others.

   b. Instruments: Strings (Nan Hu, Zhong Hu, Gao Hu, Yangqin, Guzheng, Guqin, Pipa, Liuyeqin, Qinqin, Sanxian, etc.), Woodwinds (Bangdi, Qudi, Sheng, Suona, etc.).

   c. Pop Music Performance (including solo and group performances).

Instruments: No restrictions, focused on performing pop music styles. If a group requires, please bring your own speakers.

(3) Registration Method: Please submit your registration form to the Office of Arts and Culture, 7th Floor, Administration Building. Forms can be obtained at the office or downloaded from the website's attachment section.

(4) Registration Period: Monday, October 23, 2023~17:00, Thursday, November 2, 2023.

(5) Lottery Drawing: 12:05~12:10, Friday, November 3, 2023. If you are unable to attend the drawing, the organizer will draw on your behalf.

(6) Check-in Time: 12:30~13:20, Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

(7) Trial Performance Schedule:

a. 10-minute trial performance (Please make a reservation when registering; each person is limited to 10 minutes). Tuesday, November 7, 2023, 14:00–16:30.

b. On the day of the competition (performance order will be based on check-in sequence. Each performance is limited to 2–3 minutes):

12:30~13:20, Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

(8) Students who have registered to participate in the competition and wish to practice in the music classrooms during the competition period may inquire about available time slots at the Office of Arts and Culture.

(9) Competition Rules:

a. Each participant must perform one self-chosen piece, with a performance time limit of 4–6 minutes. If the piece is too long and exceeds the time limit, you may skip repeated sections (please note this on the registration form).

b. For the competition, please memorize the sheet music. Minor point deductions will be applied if you refer to the sheet music during the performance (this does not apply to accompanists). If accompaniment is required, please bring your own accompanist.

c. Participants must submit one A4-sized copy of their musical score when registering, for the judges’ reference. The score will not be returned after the competition.

d. Due to time constraints, the judges have the right to shorten or interrupt a participant’s performance. The length of the performance will not affect the judging criteria or the final score.

e. Check-in for the competition will begin at 12:30 on competition day. Participants will perform according to the order drawn. Failure to report on time will result in disqualification. However, in the event of an emergency, participants may be allowed to perform later with the organizer’s approval.

f. Competition results will be announced immediately after the event and will also be posted on the Office of Arts and Culture website.

g. If participants need to apply for official leave on competition day, they must complete the official leave form during check-in, applicable only to the participant and their accompanist.

h. The Western Classical Music and Chinese Traditional Music categories are distinguished by the type of instrument. The Modern Pop Music category is open to all instruments, with an emphasis on pop music selections.

(10) Judging Criteria:

1. Technical Skill – 40%

2. Musicality – 40%

3. Appearance and Stage Presence – 20%

(11) Awards and Prizes:

a. The music competition is divided into three categories, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in each category. However, the number of winners may be adjusted or combined depending on the competition outcome. Each category will also have selections for “Outstanding Performance” and “Special Awards.”

b. Students who receive an “Outstanding Performance” award or higher will be recognized as reserve talents for the Office of Arts and Culture. The office will provide performance opportunities in various arts-related events to enhance students’ musical performance exposure.

1st Place: NTD 5,000, one certificate.

2nd Place: NTD 3000, one certificate.

3rd Place: NTD 2000, one certificate.

Outstanding Performance: NTD 1000, one certificate.

Note: If the performance does not meet the desired standard, the award may remain vacant.
