(CSU News) Cheng Shiu University recently held its orientation for new students in the Overseas Compatriot Industry Academia Program for the 2026 academic year. A total of 468 new students joined the program this year, marking a new enrollment record and demonstrating the University’s achievements in cultivating international talent and promoting industry-academia collaboration. President Jui Chang Kung encouraged the new students to courageously pursue their dreams and embrace a bright future.

The orientation was held on the third of this month, bringing together students from seven countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. They gathered on campus to start a new chapter in their academic journey. In addition to encouragement from the President, department chairs, class advisors, and administrative staff were present to welcome the students. By giving new students opportunities to meet faculty members and their peers, the event helped them adapt more quickly to campus life.

In his remarks, President Jui Chang Kung welcomed all the new students to the Cheng Shiu University community and expressed his admiration for the 468 overseas compatriot students who had courageously traveled far from home to pursue their studies. He noted that they were outstanding students from the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s 3+4 Industry Academia Collaboration Program and had graduated from Chung Shan Industrial and Commercial School, Kao Yuan Vocational High School, San Sin High School of Commerce and Home Economics, Shu Te Home Economics and Commercial High School, and Liou Shin Senior High School. Now entering the university stage of their education, he encouraged them to make the most of this learning opportunity and confidently embrace their future.

President Kung noted that studying in an unfamiliar environment may initially cause uncertainty and nervousness, but the University will provide comprehensive academic resources and support for everyday life. Both faculty members and administrative staff will accompany students throughout their studies, helping them pursue their studies with confidence, successfully complete their studies, and strengthen their global competitiveness.

This year’s Overseas Compatriot Industry Academia Program covers six departments: Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Management, and Food and Beverage Management, with a total of 11 classes. Cheng Shiu University has long promoted the educational philosophy of “learning by doing and doing by learning” and has established industry-academia partnerships with more than 400 companies. Through close partnerships with the hospitality, technology, manufacturing, and other industries, the University provides hands-on learning and corporate internship opportunities that help students develop the skills required to enter the workforce after graduation.

During the orientation, Hsin Yi Kuo, Deputy Vice President for Research and Development, introduced the University’s administrative units, regulations concerning overseas compatriot students, and information about everyday life to help the new students become familiar with the resources available on campus. Kuo stated that the orientation was an valuable opportunity for all overseas compatriot students to gather together and expressed the hope that the event would help them quickly become familiar with the campus environment, develop friendships, and adapt to the learning model of the Industry Academia Program. Department chairs and class advisors then led the new students through advisor-student sessions and assisted them in completing required forms. These face-to-face interactions strengthened communication between faculty-students and laid a strong foundation for the students’ next four-years of study.

Tsuan Pao Chien, a first-year student from Myanmar in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, said that he hoped to balance his studies and work while continuing to improve his English and professional skills in preparation for his future career. Li Chin Huang, a new student in the Department of Food and Beverage Management, also expressed the hope of successfully finishing her studies, improving her Chinese language proficiency and professional skills, strengthening her future employability, and embracing broader opportunities in life.
