The 12th “Kaohsiung International Invention and Design Expo” (KIDE) in 2025 was held at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center from December 4 to 6. The competition was fierce this year, with 445 works from 30 countries competing. Cheng Shiu University’s Department of Industrial Engineering and Management has launched a total of three innovative works by collaborating with Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Early Childhood Care and Education. They stood out in the fierce selection and won two gold and one bronze medal, demonstrating the R&D energy and cross-domain integration capabilities of technical and vocational education to the world with outstanding results.

    Under the guidance of teachers Huang-Kuang Kung and Pang-Chieh Lin, students Shui-Liang Li, Sheng-Chieh Lin, Ming-Yu Hsieh, Tsung-Chun Chen, Yen-Chen Lin, and Yu-Ning Chen jointly developed the “AI Artificial Intelligence Automatic Lubricating Robot for Rail Tracks.” Taking Kaohsiung Light Rail as an example, they created an AI intelligent identification and automated maintenance system, which can accurately complete track lubrication while traveling to improve significantly maintenance efficiency and safety, and won the gold medal recognition.

    Huang-Kuang Kung said that the team consists of students from both mechanical and industrial engineering management fields. Throughout the production process, they have undergone division of labor, coordination, and technical integration, which is truly the best practice of “learning by doing, doing by learning.” He expressed gratitude for the University’s long-term support in enabling students to participate in competitions, allowing faculty and students to devote themselves to R&D without any concerns, and continuously showcasing the practical capabilities and educational value of Cheng Shiu University on domestic and international stages.

    Guided by teachers Chih-Hung Yang and Pang-Chieh Lin, students Chia-Hsien Chen, Hui-Chin Lo, Shang-Chun Lin, Shih-Fan Chen, Chun-Yu Wu, and Yu-Ming Kuo jointly developed the “Intelligent Follow-up Self-propelled Vehicle.” This vehicle produced by the team has functions such as intelligent identification, path tracking and automatic follow-up. It can be used in material handling, logistics distribution and living assistance fields. As a smart mobile vehicle with commercial potential, it was awarded a gold medal.

    This research integrates knowledge from multiple fields such as sensing technology, control systems, electrical engineering, and software programming to create a smart self-propelled vehicle that can automatically identify, track, and follow the movement. The results demonstrate Cheng Shiu University’s strength in cultivating cross-disciplinary and compound talents and can be highly aligned with the smart mobile technologies required by the future manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing industries, allowing students to have “practical” application capabilities while at school.

    Guided by teachers Pang-Chieh Lin and Wan-Shan Tsai, and co-developed with students Fan-Chen Yang, Chao-Wen Kuo, Hui-Chin Lo, Chien-I Pan, and Pei-Yu Guo, the “Automatic Feeder for Pet Turtle” is based on daily needs and designs timing and automatic feeding functions from the user’s perspective to make the care of reptile owners more convenient. The work demonstrates Cheng Shiu University’s cultivation philosophy of attaching equal importance to life innovation, humanities, and technology, and won the recognition of a bronze medal.

    President Jui-Chang Kung said that the excellent result of “two golds and one bronze” this time is not only an affirmation of the participating teachers and students, but also a symbol of Cheng Shiu University’s long-term achievements in local cultivation, professional teaching, cross-departmental cooperation, and industry-university connection. He emphasized that these three works fully demonstrate the University’s diverse energy from scientific and technological R&D to life innovation and reflect Cheng Shiu University’s substantive contribution in research strength, talent cultivation, and implementation of industry-university cooperation.
