Department of E-Sports Technology of Cheng Shiu University Wins Double Gold at Invention Expo; Ministry of Education Recognizes and Commends Faculty and Students’ Innovative R&D Capabilities.

[News Release] To recognize the outstanding performance of young students in the fields of innovation, invention, and creative design, the Ministry of Education held an awards ceremony at the National Library on the 2nd of this month. Cheng Shiu University’s Department of E-Sports Technology faculty and students participated in the “28th Moscow Archimedes International Invention Expo” in Russia and the “2025 European Cup International Innovation Invention Expo.” They stood out and won gold medals for two projects: “An Automatic Scheduled Navigation System and Method” and the “IOT Regional LED Master-Slave Control System,” bringing great honor to the faculty and students of the University.

The ceremony was personally hosted by Minister of Education Ying-Yao Cheng, who encouraged youth with inspiring words: “Use creativity to transform life, and practice to achieve dreams.” He also quoted TSMC founder Morris Chang, saying, “There can be many ideas, but the key to innovation is successfully turning those ideas into reality.” He hopes that students will transform their creativity into tangible results, demonstrating practical ability and influence.

The project “An Automatic Scheduled Navigation System and Method,” developed by Department of E-Sports Technology student Huang-Fu Lin, won a gold medal at the “28th Moscow Archimedes International Invention Expo.” This system automatically collects historical driving data and generates optimal route suggestions based on pre-set departure times and locations. It integrates real-time navigation with individual driving habits, making the navigation system more tailored to the driver’s needs.

Another student, Jui-Ling Hsieh, received a gold medal for her project “IOT Regional LED Master-Slave Control System” at the “2025 European Cup International Innovation Invention Expo.” This system is a low-cost, wireless, easy-to-install smart lighting system. It can simultaneously control the brightness of LEDs within the same area to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. In areas with lower electricity demand, this system can save up to 90% of energy.

Department of E-Sports Technology Director Che-Jen Hsieh highlighted that the department has long been promoting students’ creative thinking and practical abilities. In addition to encouraging students to apply for patents, the department provides guidance and technical support. He stated that student creativity often stems from life experiences; the department assists students throughout the entire process, from idea development to patent application. He believes that being recognized by the Ministry of Education is the best affirmation of the students’ hard work.

Director Che-Jen Hsieh also emphasized that invention and creation not only cultivate students’ practical skills but also enhance their competitiveness in both further education and employment. The department actively promotes “creative thinking” courses; each year, multiple innovative ideas proposed by students in class pass the preliminary review and are submitted for patent applications. This helps to bring creative education to life in the classroom.

President Rui-Zhang Gong stated that the school will continue to deepen industry–academia cooperation, providing platforms for innovative practices, encouraging students to take risks, express creativity, and contribute to social progress. President Rui-Zhang Gong hopes that students will maintain their enthusiasm, continue learning, and use creativity to drive social progress, helping the spirit of “from academia to practice” to shine brightly across Cheng Shiu University campus.
