Research Center Established by Cheng Shiu University and MUTU in the International Era of Green Sustainability

To promote environmental sustainability and deepen international cooperation, a delegation of Cheng Shiu University, led by Vice President Yen-Yi Lee, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation for the “Center for Environmental Toxin and Emerging-Contaminant Research with the Taiwan–Indonesia Cooperation” in Jakarta with MUTU International. MUTU is Indonesia’s largest private testing, inspection, and certification agency. This cooperation opens a new chapter of collaboration between the two parties.
To sign this Memorandum of Cooperation with MUTU International, Yen-Yi Lee, Vice President of Cheng Shiu University, led Wu-Te Ko, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, and the research team of the Environmental Center to Jakarta, Indonesia. Arifin Lembaga, Chairman of MUTU International, personally attended the meeting. This symbolizes the strong determination of Taiwan and Indonesia to join hands to face global environmental challenges.
After the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation and unveiling ceremony, MUTU International guided the representative team of Cheng Shiu University to visit the laboratory and conduct exchanges, starting a new page for collaboration between the two parties.
Since its inception in 1990, MUTU International has been deeply involved in the fields of testing, verification, and certification. It is a key partner in the industrial upgrading and sustainable development of Indonesia. The two parties began collaborating in 2022. In 2023, MUTU International dispatched laboratory directors and R&D personnel to Cheng Shiu University for training. The establishment of the multinational research center symbolizes the substantial transfer of technology.
The newly established cooperation center will prioritize high-level analysis and test technologies for Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and emerging pollutants. The research advantages of Cheng Shiu University’s micro/super micro mass analysis are utilized to assist MUTU in building a leading environmental testing laboratory in Indonesia. MUTU International will also serve as Cheng Shiu University’s exclusive environmental testing partner in Indonesia to coordinate and promote follow-up projects and bilateral contact mechanisms.
Yen-Yi Lee, Vice President of Cheng Shiu University, said in his speech that the J. L. Center (Center for Environmental Toxin and Emerging-Contaminant Research) is not only a symbolic existence, but also a platform for practical action. It marks the beginning of a journey of collaboration based on trust, openness, and responsibility.
Cheng Shiu University emphasized that in the future, it will continue to deepen international academic and industrial cooperation, expand global partnerships, and use concrete actions to realize the sustainable vision of “starting from higher education and fulfilling our responsibilities for the planet.”
