The "Design Ignites—Spatial Rhapsody of Architecture and Interior Design: Digital Application Experience Camp” organized by the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Cheng Shiu University set its theme this year as igniting the enthusiasm for design creativity based on cold weather applications. This camp allowed participants to experience various digital tools and equipment related to architecture and interior design.

In addition to introducing the courses offered by the Department of Architecture and Interior Design’s four-year programs and the Department of Architecture’s five-year junior college programs, the winter camp included the following: guided tours of spatial equipment, drone operation for architectural surveys, VR experiences in interior design, game-structured conceptual origami, and digital fabrication of furniture assemblies.

Participants had the chance to try using professional architecture and interior design software, including AutoCAD, Lumion, and Rhino, and trending technology, diversifying and enriching their experience. Participants also used laser cutting machines to create unique key chains as souvenirs, fulfilling their experience of being designers for a day.

Camp activities also featured exciting talks from guest speakers. Distinguished alumnus Chih-Chang Hsieh shared his journey about his studies, earning a doctorate and entering the public service. His talk encouraged young people to join the architecture community.

Architect You-Se Lin, representing the Architects' Association, told participants that her child graduated from Cheng Shiu majoring in architecture with many professional skills and is now working alongside her at the company to create many outstanding works.

Designer Chun-Kai Chang talked about his thoughts when he decided to attend technical and vocational college. The guidance of his architecture teacher at Cheng Shiu on his design concepts helped him in his decision-making process.

Department Dean, Chair Hsiao-Mei Chiang, said that seniors recommend the architecture winter camp to juniors each year, and even family members sign up. This maximizes the camp's professional promotional effect. She looks forward to seeing more participants develop skills in the architecture and interior design fields.
