The Department of Digital Multimedia Design at CSU and JT VFX Studio Established Industry-Academia Collaboration to Achieve “Knowledge-Action Integration”

CSU’s Department of Digital Multimedia Design has attained several achievements since its establishment. This year, the works of graduating students have earned prestigious awards, such as the “Vision Get Wild” and “Youth Innovative Design Festival,” which speak for themselves. JT VFX Studio has simultaneously recruited three graduates from CSU's Department of Digital Multimedia Design. Moreover, talented graduates from CSU have gained a stellar reputation through word of mouth, earning widespread praise and recognition within the industry.
Cultivating university talent will soon face the rise of industries related to concepts such as self-media, the metaverse, Web 3.0, NFTs, virtual characters, virtual reality (VR), AR, and MR. As many traditional industries embrace digital transformation, the demand for digital content and image professionals is increasing daily.
The latest episode of CSU's Excellence Podcast features special guests Sheng-kai Yin, Chair of the Department of Digital Multimedia Design, Cheng-chieh Yeh, CEO of JTVFX-Studio Ltd., and Meng-si Yeh, an alumnus/professional manager. These guests are invited to discuss how CSU’s Department of Digital Multimedia Design has collaborated with industry partners to cultivate a new generation of skilled professionals, taking advantage of the opportunities presented by digital transformation.
In the interview, Sheng-kai Yin pointed out that Kaohsiung City is the capital of digital sensory experiences, housing many digital content industries, including Soft-World Inc., XPEC Art Center, The White Rabbit Entertainment Inc., CG Imagery, Var Live, BarkingDog Technology Inc., and Auer Media Entertainment Corp. Today, many of these companies, as well as startups, employ alumni from CSU’s Department of Digital Multimedia Design. Many CSU graduates hold supervisory or reserve management positions as animators, designers, special effects artists, and even programmers.
Sheng-kai Yin emphasized that the performance of graduates in the digital industry is strongly correlated with their academic achievements and project work during their time at CSU. Alumni who excel in professional skills and teamwork during their studies naturally secure positions in digital content and design industries. For example, Meng-si Yeh, who graduated this year, was instantly recruited by the renowned JTVFX-Studio Ltd. and has already been promoted to the position of professional manager.
Sheng-kai Yin described that Meng-si Yeh was president of the Graduation Exhibition Preparation Committee during school. This year's theme, “So Good/Monster Mushroom,” was shortlisted for the 2024 Vision Get Wild’s Best Space Design Award. Meng-si Yeh now works as an exhibition coordinator at the company. Furthermore, Yen-yu Chen has been promoted to lighting director and editor, while Wen-sheng Hu holds the positions of Director of Photography and Section Chief of Equipment Integration.
Cheng-chieh Yeh shared that he established his business and became the boss during his twenties. Due to the similar ages of employees, everyone interacts like a family. He encourages new recruits to determine early “what they want” while providing encouragement—once you find your direction in life, your path will be much smoother. “We do not force newcomers to know how to edit or plan. Instead, we ask, ‘What are you interested in?’ We encourage them to develop expertise based on their interests to find the path they want to pursue,” explained Cheng-chieh Yeh.
