CSU Produces a Golden Highlight in Character Education, Recognized as a Character Education Specialist School by the Ministry of Education.

By integrating sustainability, diversity, and goodness into its campus culture and implementing these values, CSU has planted the seeds of character education in the hearts of its faculty and students. This has earned CSU the Ministry of Education's prestigious Character Education Specialist School Award, becoming only one of four universities to receive this honor nationwide. Dean of Student Affairs Shu-Yun Lin, who traveled north to accept this award, remarked that CSU’s administrative and academic units are fully committed to promoting character education and integrating its core values into students’ daily lives.

The Ministry of Education recently hosted the “2024 Ministry of Education Character Education Specialist Schools Observation and Compliment Ceremony” at the National Central Library. This has encouraged the promotion of specialist schools focused on character education and sharing experiences. During the event, 30 specialist schools were honored for their contributions to cultivating an outstanding culture of character.

CSU has continually demonstrated a deep commitment to character education. It has been recognized as an “Outstanding School in Character Education” during the 2008 academic year and as a “Ministry of Education Character Education Specialist School” in 2012, 2016, and 2020. The University has earned this prestigious distinction again in 2024. Dean Shu-Yun Lin represented CSU at the National Central Library to accept the award.

When naming the award recipient, CSU's founder drew inspiration from the concepts of [rectifying the heart] and [cultivating the self] from [The Great Learning], aiming to educate students to be holistic individuals with “functional competency” and “moral character.” Building on the foundation of the 2020 initiative “Starting from the Heart,” CSU has incorporated the concepts of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its characteristics. Furthermore, according to practical circumstances, it addresses three key dimensions for implementation: Sustainability, Diversity, and Goodness. CSU aims to implement comprehensive character education across campus as follows.

S: Sustainability encompasses implementing democratic procedures, deepening core values, applying critical thinking skills, fostering civic literacy, integrating external resources to foster win-win value, nurturing teacher-student relationships, and strengthening educational effectiveness.

D: Diversity emphasizes integrating and combining diverse informal and implicit curricula. This includes fostering a harmonious and inclusive environment, promoting inclusiveness and respect for others, practicing holistic education, being health ambassadors, creating a friendly campus, and deepening art education.

G: Goodness is fostered through selection and recognition initiatives while encouraging students to develop strong moral character. Goodness is demonstrated through volunteer service, including mutual encouragement among peers, shaping exemplary role models, creating a friendly campus, and embedding these values into campus culture through concrete actions.
