The 2024 graduation performance of the Department of Cosmetics and Fashion Styling at Cheng Shiu University, titled “Bu,” is quickly approaching. It showcases practical skills students have learned over the past four years and innovates the application of fashion makeup and artistic aesthetics. However, this year also introduces a performance that will convey their hopes and aspirations for the future through stunning visual effects. It is a highly anticipated event!
The grand performance will be held on December 6th at 7:00 PM in the Cheng-Shiu Hall on the 9th floor of the Humanities Building. Ticket reservations are now available. For inquiries, please contact student Fang at 0903-851-376. Department Chair Dr. Wen-Ling Tsai explains that the theme of the graduation performance, [Bu], signifies “Divining the direction of answers, opening a new unknown field on the other side.” Students have achieved various milestones over the past four years while facing different challenges. While reaching their goals, they are filled with anticipation and aspirations for unknown adventures that lie ahead.
Associate Professor Yung-Chung Li has been invited multiple times to work backstage at Paris Fashion Week and shared that the design concept for the Cheng Shiu makeup and runway show graduation performance is inspired by fashion week events held annually worldwide. The training for makeup artists was also introduced to teaching. The training students receive, including light design in professional classrooms, table setting, and makeup posture and positioning, are based on the standards of these prestigious Fashion Week events. This ensures that students are fully prepared to perform professionally upon entering the workforce.
Dr. Yin-Ju Chen, the general planner and convener for this performance, also stated that the students combine the professional skills and knowledge they have gained over the past four years to subvert conventional thinking and demonstrate their creativity and expertise through various innovative techniques and ideas. The visual presentation interprets the works’ design concepts through a stage form, featuring seven major themes: “With Praying, Blessings Will Follow,” “Ghost Phases,” “Interstellar Planet,” “Circular,” “AI,” “Moonquake,” and “Savannamal.”
On the morning of the 4th, cosmetics stream students will be the first to exhibit their cosmetic products under the theme “Ran Guang.” Developed from plant extracts, these innovative products feature anti-aging, moisturizing, soothing, repairing, and purifying qualities while integrating environmental sustainability concepts into their design. Dr. Wen-Ling Tsai emphasized that this exhibition highlights natural, eco-friendly, and healthy cosmetic trends. It is expected to attract attention from faculty, students, and industry professionals within and outside the school. More exciting interviews on fashion aesthetics will be featured in the Excellence Cheng Shiu Podcast.
