Taiwan's First “VR Interactive Micro-Nano Technology Training Platform” Unveiled: Cheng Shiu University and National Cheng Kung University Join Forces to Enhance Nanotechnology Training and Talent Cultivation Effectiveness

In response to the increasing demand for talent in the semiconductor industry, Cheng Shiu University and National Cheng Kung University have signed a [Memorandum of Understanding for Teaching Collaboration on the VR Interactive Micro-Nano Technology Training Platform VR]. This partnership aims to enhance learning outcomes for students and those aspiring to enter the semiconductor industry by adopting an engaging and situated approach to education.

The “VR Interactive Micro-Nano Technology Training Platform” was jointly developed through the collaboration of Cheng Shiu University, National Cheng Kung University, and the digital technology company Cooky's Digital Park Co., Ltd. The official launch event was held on the 22nd of this month. Key figures were in attendance, including Dr. Hong-Chen Chen, Vice President of National Cheng Kung University; Bo-Wen Huang, Vice President of Cheng Shiu University; Wen-Tai Chiu, Director of the Core Facility Center of National Cheng Kung University; Chuan-Pu Liu, Vice President of Research & Development at National Cheng Kung University; Na-Fu Wang, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering; and Shu-fen Liu, General Manager of Cooky's Digital Park Co., Ltd. These figures were invited to bear witness to the occasion.

Na-Fu Wang, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering, explained that Cheng Shiu University had integrated its conception with elements of the metaverse and invited National Cheng Kung University to co-develop Taiwan's first [Semiconductor Process Simulation Interactive Teaching System]. This system enables users to acquire chip process techniques through mobile devices or a VR-simulated environment, helping students understand the technical steps involved in semiconductor manufacturing through immersive, hands-on experience. The system enhances interest and interconnectivity during the learning process while strengthening students' practical skills and problem-solving abilities.

At the signing ceremony, Vice President Dr. Hong-Chen Chen and Vice President Bo-Wen Huang signed the collaboration MOU on behalf of their institutions. In addition to creating more platforms, this agreement also aims to enhance the depth and breadth of the training platform, building on the existing research and development foundation of the Micro-Nano Technology Training Platform. This serves to expand nanotechnology training and talent development in fields such as optoelectronics, information and communication technology, quantum technology, chemical materials, and biomedical sciences.

Vice President Dr. Hong-Chen Chen emphasized that the “VR Interactive Micro-Nano Technology Training Platform” will enable virtual reality to be applied in teaching and training within high-risk, high-cost, high-tech, and high-barrier fields. This can reduce costs and limit real environmental constraints for training and teaching. The platform can continue to move forward and convey science in a simple and entertaining way to high school students and even the general public to increase their understanding of virtual reality.

Vice President Bo-Wen Huang stated that the “VR Interactive Micro-Nano Technology Training Platform” is an immersive virtual reality education platform. It can be used to implement practical teaching, deepen knowledge foundations, and strengthen talent cultivation. He also expressed his hope that Cheng Shiu University and National Cheng Kung University will continue their collaboration, leveraging the strengths of both parties to cultivate semiconductor technology talents and jointly establish a solid foundation for this field.
