"Breaking Through" bravely emerges from the depths of the sea! The 11th graduation achievement traveling exhibition of the Department of Visual Communication Design from Cheng Shiu University grandly kicks off at the P3 warehouse of the Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung. The 19 exhibited works showcase the students' extraordinary design prowess and have been nominated for the Young Pin Design Award, the Youth Innovative Design Festival, and the Ministry of Education Capstone Project Competition. At the opening ceremony, President Jui-Chang Kung stated that the creative ideas of the graduating students have reached a professional level. The fruits of their long-term diligence in learning have culminated in brilliant breakthroughs.

The 11th graduation achievement traveling exhibition of the Department of Visual Communication Design at Cheng Shiu University opening ceremony was bustling and lively on site. The attendees included President Jui-Chang Kung, Chief of Directors of the Kaohsiung Cultural & Design Development Association Cheng-Hsien Sun, Director of the Kaohsiung Creators Association Hung-Wen Lee, Director of the Hand Heart Design Firm Chih-Yang Hsu, President of the Cheng Shiu Alumni Association Tai-Ping Su, Director of ANGLE visual integration Yu-Wei Chou, and Chair of the Department of Visual Communication Design Yu-Jin Lin.

The theme of this year's graduation exhibition is “Breaking Through”. It serves as a curatorial theme, symbolizing the brave emergence from the depths of the sea. The exhibition showcases students' creativity and the knowledge and skills acquired over their four years at university. Like adventurers in a submarine, the students have gradually honed their unique perspectives.

A total of 19 groups of works are presented in this exhibition. The Visual Communication Design capstone project, "Ming," stands out among them. It has been nominated for several competitions, including the Young Pin Design Award, the Youth Innovative Design Festival, and the Ministry of Education Capstone Project Competition. "Ming" is an audio-visual field guidebook that offers a multi-sensory experience, combining hearing and vision. It documents five endangered bird species native to high-altitude areas in Taiwan. The field guidebook allows readers to instantly hear the elegant melodies of nature while admiring the graceful forms and shadows of Taiwan's endemic bird species. It is a wonderful exploration of the beautiful legends of birds and humans on this island.

The "Appropriate" project was nominated for the Young Pin Design Sponsorship Award and the Youth Innovative Design Festival. It comprises campus-creative teaching material designed to introduce children with Tourette syndrome. It aims to help students understand Tourette syndrome and develop empathy toward these patients.

Another project, "World Through Their Eyes," was nominated for the Young Pin Design Sponsorship Award. This project focuses on the Taipei Zoo, Shou Shan Zoo, and Farglory Oceanpark. It uses Visual Arts and Photography to present the current situation at these zoos.

Yu-Jin Lin, Chair of the Department of Visual Communication Design, stated that the Department of Visual Communication Design has been established for 15 years. It has actively participated in design competitions over this time, ranging from Taiwan competitions like the Youth Innovative Design Festival, Vision Get Wild, and the Young Pin Design Award to prestigious international competitions such as the Red Dot Design Award, the Golden Global Biennale of Graphic Design, the Asia Student Package Design Competition, and the International Poster Triennial in Toyama. The department has earned hundreds of domestic and international design awards.

Yu-Jin Lin added that in addition to the exhibition displayed at the Youth Innovative Design Festival at the Pier-2 Art Center, other exhibitions will be held at the following venues: the Young Designers' Exhibition at the Nangang International Exhibition Center, Hall 2 (4FD-06) from May 24 to May 27; Vision Get Wild at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, South Hall from May 30 to June 1; the Cultural Heritage Creative Award at the Cultural Heritage Park, Ministry of Culture from May 30 to June 3.
