Cheng Shiu University’s Street Concert Romance Experience “Listening to Music” vs. “Creative Beverage Bag Collage”
To enrich the cultural life of students and staff, the Office of Technology and Art Development at Cheng Shiu University hosted a vibrant and creative Street Concert and Creative Handmade Craft Experience. Idol singers performed a series of Mandarin, English, Japanese, and Taiwanese songs, with on-the-spot song requests available. This catered to everyone’s auditory enjoyment, allowing them to indulge in an afternoon filled with art and enjoyment.
The street concert invited a local duo performance team. The vocalist HAHA, a professional resident singer, captivated the audience with her melodic voice. Talented keyboardist Alex won Best Keyboardist at the Yamaha Popular Song Contest. He also performed at Cheng Shiu University’s graduation concert alongside well-known singer Andrew Tan.
With their exceptional musical skills and stage presence, HAHA and Alex filled the concert with energy and excitement. Their performances included a variety of Mandarin, English, Japanese, and Taiwanese songs. Styles ranged from pop to rock and upbeat tunes to sentimental, offering the students and staff a rich and diverse musical experience.
To further engage with the audience, the singers accepted song requests. One audience member requested “Miss You Day and Night” by Accusefive. As the music played, HAHA’s voice soared at times while powerfully deepening at others. The audience was mesmerized throughout the performance.
In addition to captivating musical performances, the Office of Technology and Art Development organized two creative handmade craft experience activities. This allowed participating students and staff to enjoy the fun of hands-on crafting accompanied by music. The “Art Collage” featured the creation of a decorative beverage bag using “Decoupage” techniques. Participants crafted their unique beverage bags by selecting their favorite patterns from the collage materials and employing clever collage techniques to combine various shapes. This resulted in personalized bags that were aesthetically pleasing and practical.
Ting-Ting Luo, a third-year student from the Department of Architecture, shared that the Art Collage was a lot of fun and allowed everyone to create with their own hands. The same pattern can present differing artistic beauty depending on its arrangement.
Chia-Yu Guo, a first-year student from the Department of Cosmetics and Fashion Styling, added, “The Art Collage process involved applying paint and glue and using a blow dryer to dry my work, which felt unique and enjoyable. I had a sense of accomplishment once I completed my project. I want to try it again another time.”
There was a Hand-Brewed Coffee Experience on-site during the event. Event assistants guided participants in selecting coffee beans, grinding them, extracting, and hand-brewing fresh coffee. This allowed participants to explore the intricacies of coffee flavors and the brewing process. Not only did this help participants understand coffee culture, it also enabled them to savor the joy of brewing a rich and aromatic cup of coffee with their own hands.
