Luvi's from the San Sin High School of Commerce and Home Economics claimed the Dance Champion and the “Most Creative Style” award, while Feng-Sheng Shen from Liu Shin Senior High School won the Singing Champion, and Chia-Chia Chen secured the “Most Popular Performer” title.
Principal Jui-Chang Kung indicated that, for overseas Chinese students from afar, these diversified learning and social gatherings enhanced the spectrum of their learning experiences. The dance and singing championship attracted 4,000 students to apply online, setting the stage with unprecedented enthusiasm.
Since its inception, the Cheng Shiu Cup: Singing and Dance Championship for Overseas Chinese Students has garnered enthusiastic support from students. To continue the grand tradition of the past three editions, a Christmas party and the local banquet culture were combined with this event, allowing overseas Chinese students to immerse themselves in a diversified campus life and Taiwanese culture while enhancing their academic and practical skills. The fourth edition introduced the dance championship in addition to its existing singing competition, which allowed overseas Chinese students to showcase their dance and vocal talents.
The singing performances of those who advanced to the semi-final were recorded and shared on the fan page of the “Cheng Shiu University Industry-University Special Program for Overseas Chinese Students” (https://www.facebook.com/cec1188/) for online voting. After voting by friends, family, and fans, five dance groups and 12 performers in the singing category were selected by the committee and the jury for the final.
In the dance championship, with the dance music played, dancers brought the stage to life with dynamic moves. They raised their hands and turned their bodies. Seeing the long locks of the female dancers’ flow as they twirled, the audience, comprised of thousands of students from nearby high schools and vocational schools, erupted in applause and cheers, creating an electric atmosphere.
The singing championship was even more intensive, with 12 candidates taking center stage to perform their beloved Chinese songs, including JJ Lin’s “Practice Love”, Jolin Tsai’s “Rewind”, and Wanting Qu’s “You Exist In My Song”. Sometimes, the singing was intensely passionate, while at other moments, it featured low, soulful tones. Enhanced by their gestures and facial expressions, the performances delivered a spellbinding sense of fascination.
Overseas students and the on-site audience were invited to participate in the voting, which added an extra touch of excitement and joy to the on-site atmosphere. In addition to the awards for the top three performers in each category, special awards, such as the “Most Popular Performer” in the singing category and the “Most Creative Style” award in the dance category, were presented. The Promotion and Education Center at the Research and Development Division of the host also prepared a lot of prizes for everyone involved, from students to faculty, creating unforgettable memories.
