Grand Debut of Graduation Exhibition “SPLENDID” of the Department of Cosmetics and Fashion Styling of Cheng Shiu University, Innovative Integration of Cosmetics and Makeup Artistry

[News Release] Department of Cosmetics and Fashion Styling of Cheng Shiu University held its 2025 graduation exhibition ‌“SPLENDID”‌ today (November 21) at the Cheng-Shiu Hall on the 9th floor of the Humanities Building. This exhibition gathered the professional energy and creative aesthetics accumulated by students over four years and integrated the achievements of the ‌Cosmetics Group‌ and ‌Makeup Group‌ on the same stage for the first time, symbolizing a breakthrough in interdisciplinary integration.

Ching-Yun Hsu, Dean of the College of Life and Creativity, stated that this year’s ‌“SPLENDID”‌ signified each graduate radiating their unique brilliance through exceptional techniques and distinctive perspectives. The ‌Cosmetics Group‌ has developed multiple innovative products using local native plants and unique materials, demonstrating high professionalism in formulation design, fragrance creation, and skincare functions. The ‌Makeup Group‌ has presented diverse themes, transforming everyday life and cultural elements into creative styling artistry, resulting in more dynamic and expressive performances.

This year, the ‌Makeup Group‌ centered on the theme ‌“Life is Inspiration,” with works spanning night market culture, environmental sustainability, and life exploration. For example, one team recreated childhood memories through the theme of “night market visits,” while another team redesigned stage costumes using recycled materials, showcasing their practice of sustainable fashion. Additionally, some works explored inner souls, natural forces, and disaster issues through style language, reflecting the students’ sensitivity and depth of creativity regarding contemporary social problems.

The Cosmetics Group has unveiled nearly 30 brand new beauty R&D achievements, including a skincare line made with Kaohsiung local farmers’ longan, three signature perfumes blended with rum, whiskey, and gin, herbal microwave-extracted shampoo, a foundation with light-sensitive color-changing effects, a night-specific clove skincare cleanser, and a new skincare product combining thyme plant extracts with sun protection functions. Director Cai Wenling pointed out that many works have reached, or even surpassed, market standards in technology and creativity, attracting numerous industry manufacturers to explore possibilities for technical cooperation and commercialization.

Additionally, the exhibition featured five dynamic stage creations integrating SDGs sustainability themes, including “Love Thy Tide,” inspired by water nurturing the earth; “Boundless,” symbolizing the intertwining of spirit and aura; “Ya-Chi Night Market,” themed around night market culture; “Within the Layers,” exploring life levels and soul continuity; and “Disaster,” responding to disaster and ecological protection issues. Diverse themes and styles have made the overall exhibition more narrative and artistically powerful.

Ya-Ping Hsu, a student from the Department of Cosmetics and Fashion Styling, said the overall styling of the works was developed by the inspiration of the Taiwanese people’s shared life memory “night markets.” Whether urban or rural, everyone has their own night market, so the team hopes to transform various elements commonly found in night markets, those “eaten, played, watched,” into clothing, accessories, and stage costumes, creating a “personified night market character.”

Ching-Yun Hsu, Dean of the college, said, “SPLENDID” is not only a presentation of the learning achievements of the 2025 class, but also demonstrates Cheng Shiu University’s profound energy in cosmetics, styling, and product R&D education. The University sincerely invites everyone to visit and experience this annual grand event that blends creativity, technology, and beauty.
