Exploration and Experience Camp: IM Try It Smart Machine Players of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Cheng Shiu University! Students Feel Energized to Operate Robotic Arms

To assist high school and vocational school students in understanding the status quo of the smart machinery industry, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Cheng Shiu University held the "Exploration and Experience Camp: IM Try It Smart Machine Players!" Students learned to master the application and implementation of the smart machinery industry. Students may enter the field of smart machinery industry via teacher-student interaction and basic practical experience courses. Jeng-Nan Lee, Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, explained how practical operations and interactive learning can help students deeply understand the charm of smart automation technology, further discovering their potential.

The activities of the "Explore and Experience Camp of IM Try It Smart Machine Players!" introduced students to the wonderful world of robotic arms and machine tools. Through lively and exciting implementation methods, students not only acquired the basic concepts of robotic arms and machine tools. They also operated these tools with their own hands, experiencing the infinite possibilities of automation.

Starting with the basics, the experience camp helped students to understand how high-tech equipment can assist humans in completing precise, complex tasks, directly showing them how it works. Via writing programs with user-friendly CAM software, students integrated their creativity and program logic into the robotic arms' movements under the teachers' guidance.

Whether for grabbing objects or cutting precision, students could effectively master how to make the robotic arm follow instructions and complete interesting challenges. Learning programming skills stimulated student interest in programming, and everyone felt a sense of accomplishment.

Youchen Lin, a second-year student from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Chung Shan Industrial and Commercial School, operated a robotic arm for the first time. He excitedly explained that the robotic arm sparked his curiosity. Although it initially seemed a bit complicated, he found it exciting as he became very interested in learning more about robotic arm technology.

By learning about robotic arms and CNC cutting technology, students have mastered the basic operation and programming skills of robotic arms. They learned how to grab and carry objects through program control. The experience taught them about CNC cutting technology and how to set up and operate CNC machine tools for precise cutting and processing. Through practical experience, students combined theoretical knowledge and practical operations to enhance their understanding of smart automation technology.

Weiling Chen, a second-year student majoring in chemical engineering at the Affiliated Tainan Industrial Senior High School of National Cheng Kung University said that although he studied chemical engineering, he may have double majors in college and study other fields. He was very interested in the CNC machining center and wanted to experience it again.
