Cheng Shiu University’s Freshmen Orientation Party with A Bustling Club Exhibition. At the Start of the School Year, President Jui-Chang Kung Urges Students to Stay Alert to Fraud and Avoid Drug Use.

Breaking away from the traditional approach of introducing departments, classrooms, and campus environments, the Freshmen Orientation Carnival organized by Cheng Shiu University was bustling. An energetic orientation party and club exhibition occurred simultaneously, providing an eye-opening experience for first-year students. Several students exclaimed how different university life is from high school, anticipating the next four years to be even more vibrant and diverse. President Jui-Chang Kung stated that the way of learning at university differs significantly from that of high school. This orientation helps first-year students better understand how to adapt to university learning, opening a new chapter in their lives.

To help first-year students get to know the school better, Cheng Shiu University’s Office of Student Affairs, Student Activity Division, specifically organized the orientation party and club exhibition on the same day. This allowed first-year students to select their favorite clubs to join before the semester even began, all while enjoying a special welcome concert organized for them, making it an exciting experience!

The Cheng Shiu University club exhibition was held at the Student Activity Center, filling the already spacious venue with first-year students and crowded club booths. With their curiosity piqued, first-year students explored over 50 clubs, including the Kendama Club, Dart Club, Kendo Club, and more, all showcasing their unique talents to attract and recruit new members. One could feel the palpable energy and excitement upon entering the venue.

Among a dazzling array of clubs, the Kendama Club, popular in Japan, drew a crowd of curious students to its booth. Each student held a wooden kendama, a toy with a ball attached to a string. With skillful hands, they flipped the ball, aiming to land it on the spike or in the kendama cup. The gameplay was varied, featuring tricks such as “Space Walk,” “Around Japan,” “Around the World,” “Big Bang,” and “Moon Landing.”

The orientation party also featured performances by two idol singers, RuoFan Chang and Kumachan. RuoFan Chang, who gained popularity by singing Wei-jen Yuan’s “Shall We Leave,” captivated the audience with her gentle voice, earning enthusiastic applause and cheers. She even stepped off the stage to interact with fans, shaking hands, giving high fives, and taking photos, which added to the lively atmosphere. Kumachan brought a dynamic performance of singing and dancing, energizing the students as they moved along with the rhythm. Like RuoFan, Kumachan also stepped off the stage to interact with fans, heightening the excitement.

During the opening ceremony, President Jui-Chang Kung reminded students of the increasing prevalence of scams that often lure people with promises of high returns. He urged students to stay alert and avoid falling into these traps. He also warned that drugs are continuously evolving and cautioned students never to try out of curiosity, as addiction is difficult to overcome once it takes hold.
