Cheng Shiu University Marathon Graduation: One Ceremony After Another; President Jui-Chang Kung Encourages “Having Both Feet on the Ground and A Stitch in Time Saves Nine”

Cheng Shiu University is renowned for its outstanding educational performance and ranks first among private technical colleges and universities. The University has received financial support from the Ministry of Education within the framework of the Higher Education Sprout Project, totaling over NTD 240 million in subsidies. It held a marathon-style series of three graduation ceremonies today for Day Program and Continuing Education students. The Taipei Alumni Association Golden Award granted NTD 100,000 scholarships to two outstanding graduates, recognizing their exemplary performance at the school. President Jui-Chang Kung encouraged graduates, whether pursuing further education or entering the workforce, to start from the ground floor level with both feet on the ground while integrating their interests and expertise to succeed.

Due to venue size limitations, Cheng Shiu University held today’s graduation ceremonies in three sessions. The graduation song played from morning until evening, bidding farewell to graduates one group after another. President Jui-Chang Kung stated that despite the impact of declining birth rates, Cheng Shiu University still has nearly 4,000 graduates this year, with its educational performance being well-recognized.

He also urged graduates to uphold a spirit of “Nothing in the world is difficult for one who sets their mind to it” when encountering workplace challenges or setbacks, overcoming each while growing further.

During the ceremonies, the Taipei Alumni Association Golden Award, which has provided NTD 100,000 scholarships to two students annually since 2017, honored two outstanding students: Ming-Kai Yeh from the Electronics Department and Kai-Chen Kang from the Early Childhood Department. The scholarship donor, Tsung-Chi Lai, a 1961 graduate of Industrial Management and the 25th–26th President of the Taipei Alumni Association, established the Award in memory of his mother. Since he is also a member of the Taipei Alumni Association, the award was named the “Taipei Alumni Association Golden Award.”

Thai-Ping Su, President of the Cheng Shiu University Alumni Association, stated that refusing to learn is refusing to grow. He encouraged graduates to continue learning beyond graduation, practicing the philosophy that one is never too old to ensure steady career advancement.

In his speech, Legislator Dai-Hua Lin indicated that Cheng Shiu University has been recognized as a favorite among companies according to surveys by Cheers and CommonWealth Magazine. He emphasized that if graduates maintain team spirit and workplace ethics, they are sure to become industry elites in the future.

Dai-Hua Lin also presented awards to resilient and outstanding students who have overcome adversity. Among them were Ling-Hsing Chang, Yu-Hsiang Chao, and Ling-Ling Ko, who, despite severe physical disabilities, completed their studies by overcoming limitations; Tzu-Jung Chen, who has moderate visual impairment with a left eye completely blind, excelled academically and served as a peer assistant to fellow students; Tzu-Ying Chen, who battles leukemia, diligently pursues learning despite undergoing chemotherapy; and Hsiu-Hui Huang, overcoming severe depression at age 60, returned to school to earn seven professional certifications.

The “Indigenous Student Graduation Ceremony and Banquet” expanded this year. This took place on graduation day to warmly bid farewell to 13 Indigenous graduates. The event was chaired by the Dean of Student Affairs and the Director of the Indigenous Student Resource Center, Shu-Yu Lin. Tokens of appreciation were presented to the graduates to convey that Cheng Shiu University will always be their home. The Bunun song “Paiska laupaku” (From Now On) was performed during the ceremony, offering blessings to the graduates on this special occasion.

Additionally, the Overseas Compatriot Education Program has 122 graduates this year, with over 200 relatives and friends flying in from overseas to celebrate. Electrical Engineering student Shu-Fang Huang was honored with the Overseas Community Affairs Council Chairman’s Award of NTD 50,000. Originally from Indonesia, Shu-Fang Huang participated in the 3+4 Industry-Academia Cooperative Education Program for Overseas Compatriot Students. She attended Chung Shan Industrial and Commercial School for high school education and seamlessly transitioned to Cheng Shiu University for higher education. President Jui-Chang Kung presented the flag to Yu-Chia Chen, preparatory chairperson of the Overseas Compatriot Alumni Association, to officially declare the establishment of the “Overseas Compatriot Alumni Association.”
