[Report] Cheng Shiu University has been honored for the 15th time as an outstanding industry-academia collaboration unit by the Chinese Institute of Engineers. President Jui-Chang Kung attended the awards ceremony to receive the award on behalf of the University. President Jui-Chang Kung remarked that as Cheng Shiu University approaches its 60th anniversary next year, this honor signifies the close integration between the University and industry. It also demonstrates that Cheng Shiu University is committed to training talent to meet industry needs, resulting in its graduates’ strong competitiveness in the job market.

The Chinese Institute of Engineers recently held its conference, “Chinese Institute of Engineers and Each Specialized Engineering Associations’ 2024 Joint Annual and Engineer’s Day Celebration Conference Chinese Institute of Engineers,” at ILLUME TAIPEI, where outstanding units in industry-academia collaboration were recognized. Cheng Shiu University received the outstanding industry-academia collaboration unit award for the 15th time, garnering high praise across various sectors. President Jui-Chang Kung noted that Cheng Shiu University collaborates extensively with industry, conducts research, and strengthens its connections with regional industries. It actively seeks to establish close industry-academia collaborative relationships with regional industries while expanding the breadth and depth of industry-academia cooperation. These efforts continually enhance the school’s achievements in industry-academia collaboration, earning acclaim within the industry.

President Kung also emphasized that “strengthening industry-academia collaboration to reduce the gap between academia and industry” is a primary goal for the University to promote industry-academia collaboration. Over the years, concerted efforts from faculty and students have integrated campus resources, introduced advanced equipment, established nationally certified laboratories with unique features, promoted technology transfer, strengthened intellectual property management, and facilitated mechanisms for faculty-industry matchmaking. These efforts contribute to an environment conducive to industry-academia collaboration.

President Kung further mentioned that Cheng Shiu University maintains an annual student population 16,000, ranking second in the Kaohsiung technical and vocational education system. This is just behind the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. It ranks first among private technical universities. Under the industry-government-academia sprout collaboration, the University has received financial support from the Ministry of Education. This includes the Higher Education Sprout Project’s first-phase fund of NTD 900 million and the 2023 second-phase fund of NTD 240 million. Over the next five years, more than NTD 1 billion will be invested in hardware and software equipment for campus departments. This year, the school was honored for the 15th time as an outstanding industry-academia collaboration unit by the Chinese Institute of Engineers, reaffirming industry recognition of the school’s industry-academia collaboration while ensuring graduates can seamlessly transition from school to the workplace post-graduation.

Cheng Shiu University has also established the “Center for Environmental Toxin and Emerging-Contaminant Research,” based on over 20 years of testing expertise. It incorporates sustainability concepts to create service value. Leveraging the College of Engineering’s background and resources, the University cultivates interdisciplinary professionals. It established the “Conservation and Research Center,” which aims to develop a unique cultural preservation and restoration system for Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region. Furthermore, it established the “Five-axis Machining Talent Cultivation Base.” This aligns with various governmental talent cultivation programs while providing colleges and universities with relevant training courses, thereby maximizing the benefits of a cultivation base.
