Department of Applied Foreign Languages

Introduction

The Department of Applied Foreign Languages comprises of two tracks: Business English and Tourism English. Teaching combines theoretical and practical instruction and aims to train foreign language specialists in the two fields specified to meet our country’s globalization needs and to keep up with developments in international trade.

Features

  • 1. The Department provides a flexible, international learning environment. It encourages students to nurture their creativity and to obtain professional licenses to enhance their competitiveness in the job market.
  • 2. Many courses are taught in groups of twenty to thirty students, among them Conversational English, English Composition, Intercultural English and English for the Hospitality Industry. Students are divided by their proficiency levels to ensure optimal learning progress. Conversational English courses are taught by foreign teachers.

Curriculum

  • 1. The primary focus of the curriculum is English. The Department routinely offers Spanish and Japanese as a second foreign language. Courses in German and Russian can be offered as well.
  • 2. In the Business track the Department offers specialized courses such as Business Writing, Language of Business Meetings, and Communication and Negotiation.
  • 3. In the Tourism track the Department offers specialized courses such as Tourism English, The Theory and Practice of Tour Leader and Tour Guide.

Faculty

The faculty of the Department is composed of 21 full-time teachers, including 2 full professors, 3 associate professor, 11 assistant professors and 8 instructors.

Facilities

The Department has 3 multi-media language labs, a library, a whole-English self-access learning center, and an auditorium. The advanced, fully-computerized facilities offer an excellent environment for foreign language learning.
